My Shopping Day~ 04/27/2014

Our last shopping day of April.  Sniff, Sniff.  I cannot believe the year is flying by so fast.  It just can't be that we have been in Florida almost 8 months- say it isn't so:)  May will be here later this week.  Which means out oldest son, Chris will be the BIG 20 soon~ YIKES!!!!

This shopping trip was supposed to be an easy one.  4 stores.  That is all I had to do was go to 4 stores.  I went to Walmart and was looking around.  We needed to find rock salt for a science experiment.  One associate told us to look in the garden center.  Nope not there.  Another associate told us to look in the appliance section. Nope not here~ they don't even sell ice cream makers.  I was not having a good day.  Kevin and I had been up and down aisles over and over again.  Different associates leading us on a wild goose chase to find rock salt.  Finally, one nice and kind gentleman asked us to wait as he found out.  He came back and told us to check the baking aisle.  I told Kevin if it is not there, we are just going to get our groceries and leave.  We had been in the store for over 30 minutes looking for rock salt.

We get to the baking aisle and Viola, there is sat right with the regular salt. Why didn't I think of that first- grrr.  Ok, got that.  Not to see what else we need to get at Walmart.  Oh no~ Wait a minute~ Where is my shopping list????  Where are the coupons that we attached to my list?  Oh, this is not good.  Up and down the aisles we went again, looking under shelves.  Probably looking like 2 crazed lunatics:)  Now we have been in Walmart for over an hour.  My head is aching looking for this list.  My poor coupons gone- no free Crayola markers for me :(

We looked and looked and finally gave up-  My list was no where to be found.  We are not sure if my list some how blew away in Walmart or if someone snatched my coupons, which was attached to my list:)  Oh well.  Luckily, I remembered what I needed to get in BJ's and CVS.  I took all my Publix coupons into Publix with me hoping and praying I wasn't forgetting anything.  We then drove all the way back home to get my original chicken grocery scratch list, which had my Walmart list on it.  Back to Walmart we went.  It was a long and exhausting shopping day :(  But we are thankful that this happened on a short shopping trip and not my huge major beginning of the month trips- oh boy :)

So, after reading all about my rather lengthy Walmart fun, here are the shopping details:

Who wants to play a guessing game?

I received an email from Shop Your Way that the suprise points that were added to my account were going to expire in a few days.  I looked over the Kmart ad to see if there was anything we needed- nope.  I looked over the Sears ad to see if anything caught my eye- nope.  I had $6 in surprise points that I did not want to lose.  So back to the Kmart ad I went, I noticed that Quaker cereal was $4/2.  Ohhhh, that would be a  nice surprise for the boys:)

It has been ages since we have bought cereal.  So, over the bridge to Kmart, Chris and I headed.  They didn't have a lot to choose from as far as Quaker cereal choices.  So, I went with Cap'n Crunch Peanut Butter (I had to choose at least 1 fun cereal), Cinnamon Life, Oatmeal Squares Cinnamon and  Oatmeal Squares Brown Sugar.  And the best part, my using my Shop Your Way surprise points along with $2 in points I already had, I paid $0.00 for all 4 boxes of cereal- WOOHOO :)  We don't have food tax here in Florida :)
Before I get to guessing part, let me introduce my boys:
Chris is 19, Kevin is 17, Nathan is 9 and little Micheal is 4.  And let us not forget my cereal loving hubby, Michael, who is not in the picture.  I do not eat cereal, so don't count me in.  I have been chugging my oh so delicious Fruity Spinach Smoothie every day:)  All my boys are very active and all of them have very healthy appetites :)

Now, where the guessing fun comes in :)  How many days do you think it will take for my family to go through these 4 boxes of cereal?

Comment below with your guess:)  The winner will get a $10 gift card of their choice (provided it is close to me).

Ready?? Set, Comment :)  I will keep the comments open until May 2nd to give everyone a chance a chance to comment.

**UPDATE**  To my surprise, it took my boys and hubby 4 days to polish off all 4 boxes of cereal.  I just knew it would be gone in a matter of days.  I guess with not having cereal often, the boys did not care for the sugar rush and crash they got.  By the 5th day, they were begging me to make something. Since eating all that cereal, no one has even asked me to buy any more :)

Our Saturday Family Adventure

We had it all planned out.  I would get up crazy early to run to the farmer's market.  Our favorite farming family is done with their season and won't be back until October- booo :(  We did have a nice chat and look forward to seeing the family in October.

I got home with enough time to get the younger kids ready for our church's HUGE Easter Egg Hunt.  We haven't been here long enough to know what was in store but according to one of the pastor's there are literally thousands of eggs hidden all around church.

Unfortunately, our "newly" adopted cat decided not to feel well and left a nice trail of blood all over the house.  That was a not so wonderful surprise walking into the house.  So, while Chris and I took the younger boys to the Easter Egg Hunt, poor Michael was left to rush the cat into the vet.  The cat is fine- he has a nasty bladder infection and is feeling much better now after his meds have kicked in.

We got to church and were greeted by a lot of plastic eggs :)  Ohh this is going to be fun :)  The kids were grouped by age.  Chris stayed with Nathan and I stayed with little Michael.  Chris forgot to bring his camera, so no pics of Nathan hunting for eggs.

Here are some pictures I took:
We had an egg-cellent start :)

The Easter bunny, 2 of our amazing Children's Ministry leaders and one of our pastors

Easter bunny, 2 awesome Children's ministry leaders and a different pastor

Little Michael's age group hunting area

Found some :)
I was sad not getting to see Nathan hunt for eggs but our awesome church made a video of the hunt.  You can see me, Michael, Nathan and Chris in the video.  Here it is if you want to watch it :)

I can't wait to see where our next adventure will take us.  I just hope it is not back to the vet :)

Our Family Fun Saturday

Not sure what the weather has been in your neck of the woods but here is has been beautiful.  I am loving it here in sunny southwest Florida.

Saturday the temperature was supposed to be close to 90 degrees.  Nathan had been hinting about the beach.  I figured why not.  To be beach....

We got there and the beach was packed.  We found a  place to set our stuff and noticed in the chaos of it all, someone was getting married- awwww :)  It was great, at the end of the ceremony, the bride and groom kiss and everyone on the beach starting clapping.

The boys told me that even though it was close to 90 degrees the water was very cold.  I decided to plant myself on the beach, watch them in the water and of course take pictures :)  That and a lady had said that something bumped into her while she was in the water and it wasn't a fish.  So, I figured staying on the sand was a safe place for me to be.  And there were a lot of dead little jellyfish washing up on shore.  I was surprised as to how many kids rushed over to pick the jellyfish up.  I thought jellyfish stung when you picked them up.  I guess these didn't.

"Testing" the water out

Building a moat for our sad sand castle :)
We had a blast and had so much fun being together on our family fun Saturday.  I can't wait to see where our next adventure takes us :)

Purex No Sort Review & Giveaway

Growing up, my mom taught me how to do laundry.  She always told me to separate the lights from the darks.  I never really understood why until that dreaded day I ended up with a pink sock- oops. From that day, I was always careful about separating my clothes for the wash.  But it never fails, that 1 lonely white sock always makes it in accidentally.

When I was first introduced to Purex No Sort for Colors laundry detergent, I was intrigued.  I must give it a try.  Will this actually work?  Hmmmm.  Let's see:

In goes the Purex No Sort for Colors

Look at that red shirt.  Oh no~ is that a white towel.  Noooo don't do it :)

In the white towel goes with all the dark clothes
Still white~ no color transfer :)
New Purex No Sort for Colors detergent is the latest laundry innovation from the Purex brand designed to simplify your laundry routine.  Purex No Sort for Colors detergent features a break through Anti-Color-Transfer Technology which traps loose dyes in the wash and reduces color bleeding accidents in your mixed color loads leaving your clothes bright and clean.

Your typical color bleeding accidents occur when dyes bleed out of fibers and deposit onto your other garments, but Purex's new Anti-Color-Technology traps loose dyes in the wash, and does not let them settle onto other fabrics.

To celebrate the release of New Purex No Sort for Colors detergent, Purex will be hosting a Sweepstakes.  One grand prize winner will receive $1000 while 100 ~2nd place winners will receive a coupon for FREE Purex No Sort for Colors detergent.  Enter the Sweepstakes here.

Want to see if New Purex No Sort for Colors is a good fit for your family?  Purex has given me 3 coupons good for a FREE bottle of Purex No Sort for Colors detergent for my wonderful readers.  Simply leave me a comment below and you will be entered to win 1 coupon.  This coupon giveaway will end on 11:59 EST on April 26th, 2014.  I will use random.org to randomly select 3 lucky winners on April 28th, 2014.

**The Purex brand provided me with a sample of Purex No Sort for Colors detergent in exchange for a product review.  However, all opinions expressed on my blog are my very own.**

Our Wild & Crazy Saturday

I know some of you have been patiently waiting for details on our wild and crazy Saturday :)

It started out nice and normal.  A trip to our local Farmer's Market.  Strolling around, enjoying the nice weather and looking for the farmer family we usually shop from.  We found them, chatted with them and bought cucumbers and green peppers.  Nathan was disappointed when we couldn't find any blueberries.

And then I saw it.  Something sparkly caught my eye.  I could hear what sounded like wind chimes.  I had to investigate.  I found the neatest  husband and wife business~ Recycled Silverware Art.  Wind Chimes made out of forks- so neat.  And then I spotted it~ a butterfly made out of spoons- I had to have it.  I couldn't make up my mind which one I wanted- butterfly made out of spoons or knives- hmmmm.

I decided to walk around to think about which one I wanted.  When I got back to the booth, the spoon butterfly was left.  So, it was settled ~ butterfly spoons it was:
Isn't it cute?

Came home, ate lunch and got ready to leave for church.  I found out our church offers a Respite Night.  I wasn't sure what a Respite Night was but once I found out, I knew it was something I definitely wanted to do.  Respite Night is for special needs children and their siblings.  I had no clue that Respite Night was in such high demand in our community.  And since Nathan exhibits Autistic behaviors, he was invited to participate.  Our church has an awesome Special Needs Ministry.  His buddy, Ms. Kelley was awesome :)

Respite Night  is an amazing night where parents can bring their special needs kids and siblings to the church for the evening.  They can go run errands, go out to eat, go to a movie or whatever they want knowing that their children are in great hands.  The church provides dinner and entertainment, all free of charge:)  The children are all paired up with buddies to spend the evening and bond with.  It is an awesome night.

We got to church that evening ready for whatever was thrown our way.  Kevin came with me to help out.  I learned who I was going to be a buddy to.  A sweet 6 year old named Theresa- how perfect~ Theresa & Theresa :)  She has Autism and has 4 brothers who all have Autism.

We were introduced and immediately she hugged me.  This night was going to be great.  I was so pumped.  We gathered in the big room and sang and danced.  We ate dinner and then it was time for centers.   That is when Theresa decided to come alive.  She ran all over the place. I was told that she was quiet and reserved.  It seems little miss Theresa decided to come out of her shell that evening.  She had so much energy.  I had no clue that Respite night was going to turn into a high energy circuit training- LOL:)  We went to the playground and she decided sand angels is what was going to make her happy. I sure hope her mother was excited about all the sand she probably took home with her :)

By the end of the night, I was exhausted.  I was exhausted into Sunday.  But I had a blast and Theresa's parents finally had an evening to themselves to enjoy.

There was such a great turn out, our church has decided to provide Respite night free of charge on the first Saturday of every month.  Guess I need to rest up now for the next one~ I can't wait :)

March 2014 Goal Update

Let's see how we did with our March 2014 goals:

 1) To not eat out or at least to not pay out of pocket, with the exception of tips. If we want to treat the family to a meal out, we will make sure we have a gift card to cover all of us.
We did awesome with this goal :)

2) Pay off 2 credit cards
We didn't get a credit card paid off but we did use our tax refund to pay off our van- YEA!!!!  It is finally ours.  No more van payments- WOOHOO!!!!

3) Not to use any of our credit cards for 2014. To pay cash for everything.
We did fantastic with this goal and paid cash.

4) To maintain our grocery budget. Our current grocery budget is $400 month for our family of 6. Our goal is to use up to that amount to feed our family healthy nourishing meals.  If we are lucky enough to come under our monthly budget, we will save that amount.
We did good in March~ we only went over by $1.87- not too bad :)

5) To create a monthly meal plan for our family, to use leftovers more efficiently and to make use of everything in our pantry and freezer.  Try our hand at freezer cooking.
Doing great with meal planning.

6) Lose weight- I need to get motivated to lose this baby weight- my goal is to lose 10 lbs this year.
I have been doing T-tapp every morning and walking 3 miles every night.  Haven't gotten on the scale to see what my actual numbers are but my pants do feel a lot looser- yay!!!!

7) Morning devotions, prayer time and more bible reading
Following a bible reading on my church's website:)

8) Monthly date night with hubby- whether we go out or stay at home, pop popcorn and rent a movie
Didn't have a date night in March but are planning one in April for our anniversary :)

9) To spend quality family time together. With everyones schedule and us running all over creation, I would love to spend more quality time together- no tv- us playing games, talking, enjoying each others company.  I think we are going to claim Saturday's as family fun day:)
Our Saturday Family Adventure included a trip to Manatee Park :)

10) Not to use our dryer to save on electricity and lower our electricity bill
Doing great with this and haven't not used the dryer.  I am loving this weather.  I hang the clothes up on clothes racks and next day they are dry:)

11) To do 1 project a month and blog about it
Did not get a chance to do March's Monthly Project.  I wanted to wait to get some fresh Organic eggs to use in the recipe.  I did do February's Monthly Project~ Crockpot Bread.  The boys liked it but I was not imrpessed.

How did you do on your March goals?
