Saturday Family Fun Adventure

Our Saturday Family Fun Adventure took us to Dinosaur World :)

The boys have been so super excited just thinking about going.  We finally had saved up enough money and Chris put in for time off.  The day finally arrived.  We packed a picnic lunch, packed up the van, picked up Christopher's girlfriend and off we went to Dinosaur World.

Here are some pictures of our adventure:

Everyone had a blast.  There was so much to do and see but not so much it was overwhelming.  We easily cruised around, went to a neat show, the boys went on 2 digs, ate lunch and played on the playground all in an afternoon.  The boys got to keep 3 of their finds on their archeologically dig.  And no Family Fun Adventure is complete without a trip to the playground.

I can't wait to see where our next Family Fun Adventure is going to take us :)

Homemade Body Wash Project

This monthly project is all the way back from May.  I know, I know I am so behind.  Trying to get caught up.  Which is choosing to be quite interesting between school and work schedules :)

I have wanted to make homemade body wash for some time now.  I finally got the chance to do it.

I scoured the Internet and You Tube and found numerous videos on how to make your own body wash but I didn't really like any of the recipes.  I watched several videos and came up with my own recipe.  Let's see how this turns out:

I got out all the ingredients I needed to make the body wash.  My hopes were to make a men's body wash and a nice lavender one for me :)  Well, I only had time to make the manly one.
I cut the bar of soap to make it easier to shred
Nice shredded soap

Water added to soap shreds.  Way to much for this small pan.  Had to pour into bigger pot.

My end result~ 64 oz of body wash ready to be tested out
The recipe I came up with for my homemade body wash:

1 bar of soap
8 C Water
1 Tbsp Glycerin
1 Tbsp Vitamin E Oil

Grate the bar of soap and add to pan.  Add 8 cups of water to pan.  Heat on Med Low heat until dissolved.  Take off heat and add Glycerin. Stir.  Let sit until cool to touch and add Vitamin E Oil.  Cool completely and bottle.  I used empty body wash bottles I had collected.

Lesson learned~ the body wash mixture is super runny when bottled.  As it sits, it thickens a lot.  If you want a less thick body wash, just add more than 8 cups of water to your recipe.  You will have to play around with the amount of water until you find just the right consistency that is right for you and your family.  We seem to be divided here.  Some like the thick version and some want a thinner version.

I got the bars of soap at the Dollar Tree.  I got the Glycerin and Vitamin E Oil at Walmart.  The final cost for us was $1.82 for 64 oz of body wash.  Which is around $0.03 an ounce :)

Now off to try to make a nice lavender body wash for myself :)  Wish me luck :)

Our Saturday Family Fun Adventure

Our Family Fun Adventure took us to Lakes Regional Park.  We have visited this park before but knew that somewhere on the grounds there was an area we had yet to explore.

We packed up our picnic lunch, loaded everyone up and off we went to do some exploring :)

We got to the park and had a wonderful picnic lunch.  The boys immediately saw the playground and wanted to play.  We let them play for a bit to get some of their never ending energy out.

Then off the explore the last part of Lakes Regional Park:

What a huge cactus
This interesting plant is called a Chenille Plant :)
End of the day headed back to the van
I was in heaven exploring the Botanical Gardens of Lakes Regional Park, the boys not so much :)  But they were great troopers about it.

I can't wait to see where our next Family Fun Adventure takes us :)

Saturday Family Fun Day

For those wondering about our Field Trip passes~ they kind of fizzled out.  In the beginning, the boys were super excited and then they just didn't ask about them any more.  I think they figured out that I like to plan a Family Fun Adventure every weekend :)

This Saturday Family Fun Day took us back to Englewood Beach.  This time a different beach :)  We love this beach and look forward to exploring all the different beaches Englewood has to offer.

Here are some pictures of our adventure:
Our stow away.  Not sure she realized where we were going :)

Even though a storm was coming and the waters were super rough, we still had a great time.  Poor Nathan lost his snorkel :(  He was so upset.  He was looking at some fish under the water and a wave crashed on him.  He told me that the ocean stole his snorkel :(  The boys favorite part of the beach trip seemed to be the washing stations~ silly boys :)

I can't wait to see where our next family fun adventure takes us :)

Overnight Oats??

Who has ever heard of overnight oats?  Not this momma.  Until recently, that is :)  I eat oatmeal every single morning.  Someone asked me if I had ever tried overnight oats and how it might help with our morning rush.

Please tell me more :)

Evidently, it is so super simple.  You just mix up what you would normally put in your oatmeal the night before, stick it in the fridge overnight and eat it in the morning.  Simple right?  I just had to try it out for myself and see what this was all about.

I got out my ingredients:
Put everything in my bowl like I normally would do for my normal cooked oatmeal:

Add cooked apples and give it a nice stir and then placed in fridge before bed:
Woke up to see the oats had soaked up the water.  But how does it taste?  Upon first bite~ it was super cold.  Not my liking.  But never fear, you can simply just heat up.  You don't have to cook it, just warm it.  Second bite~ I am in love.  The raisins are nice and plump and the flavors- oh my:)  They blended together so nicely.  I never realized the flavors I was missing eating it cooked every morning.

Now I am going to experiment with different fruits and flavors :)  I can hardly contain my excitement :)

Have you ever tried overnight oats?  Does anyone have a recipe they want to share with me?

Lowe's Build & Grow Clinic~ October 10, 2015

Lowe's will be hosting a Build & Grow Clinic on October 10, 2015 at 10am.  My younger boys love doing them and the older ones love helping the younger ones with their project:)

If you are looking for a great free activity that you can do with your kids- you should check out the Lowe's Build & Grow Clinics. Little Michael and Nathan love them. They love being able to do hands on projects with our help.

To sign up for this Build & Grow Clinic, simply go to the Lowe's Build & Grow Clinic website, which they have redone to make it more user friendly. I am loving the new website. You register all your information. Then when you visit the website to sign up for an upcoming clinic, all you have to do is sign in and check which kids you are signing up. Don't forget to print and sign the waiver. And you and your child(ren) are ready for a really cool FREE hands on project.

Once you and your child(ren) complete the project they will receive a neat patch to put on their Lowe's Build & Grow apron. If this is your first clinic, your child(ren) will receive a free Lowe's Build & Grow apron and goggles:) The more clinics you do, the more patches you get to put on your kids apron and they can show them off with pride:)

September 2015 Goals Update

How did we do with our September goals?  Let's see:

1) To not eat out or at least to not pay out of pocket, with the exception of tips. If we want to treat the family to a meal out, we will make sure we have a gift card to cover all of us.
Did fabulous with this goal.

2) Pay off our last credit card
Still chipping away at this.  We are very thankful that we were able to make a nice big dent in this credit card balance :)

3) Not to use any of our credit cards for 2015. To pay cash for everything.
Doing great with this :)

4) To maintain our grocery budget. Our current grocery budget is $400 month for our family of 6. Our goal is to use up to that amount to feed our family healthy nourishing meals.  If we are lucky enough to come under our monthly budget, we will save that amount.
We did ok.  We did go over on our grocery budget but thanks to having left over grocery budget money from previous months helped cover our overage :)

5) To create a monthly meal plan for our family, to use leftovers more efficiently and to make use of everything in our pantry and freezer.
Doing fabulous with this.

6) Lose weight- My goal is to lose 10lbs this year.
I have been working out at home with dvd's from the library 5 days a week for the last 2 weeks of September.  Even though the scale is not moving, I am noticing that my clothes are fitting differently :)  I am going to keep going with the dvd's and see what happens by the end of October :)

7) Complete the Couch to 5K with hubby
Did not complete any of the Couch to 5K program :(

8) Morning devotions, prayer time and more bible reading
Doing great with our church's website, which will read the bible verses to you :)

9) Monthly date night with hubby- whether we go out or stay at home, pop popcorn and rent a movie
We did not have a date night this month :(

10) To spend quality family time together. With everyones schedule and us running all over creation, I would love to spend more quality time together- no tv- us playing games, talking, enjoying each others company.  I think we are going to claim Saturday's as family fun day:)
In September, we went to the Shell Factory's Nature Park, went to Englewood Beach and went to Lakes Regional Park.  Pictures from the beach and the park are coming soon :)

11) Not to use our dryer to save on electricity and lower our electricity bill
I know I mentioned that I love the Florida weather.  Well, in the winter I love it.  In the super hot summer, not so much :)  Our electric has risen quite a bit with the rising heat :(  But we are still not using the dryer :)

12) To do 1 project a month and blog about it
We did not do a monthly project for September :(

13) My older boys want to run a 5K~ a color run to be more specific.  So, I am jumping on board with them, after I finish my Couch to 5K program :)
Still waiting to hear the color run date.  Which is great since my running days have kind of fizzled out :(

14) To make and use more non toxic cleaners
I am still researching and working on this one :)

How did you do with your September goals?

Our Saturday Fun Family Adventure

This Saturday Family Fun Adventure took us to the Shell Factory Nature Park.  We explored some of the Shell Factory briefly before and played a round of mini golf but that is all we had time to do on that day.

This time, we wanted to explore their Nature Park.  The boys were all excited about the Dinosaur Land that the website had mentioned.  And we had coupons that let the younger ones get in for free :)

Here are some pictures of our adventure:
Snakes- ewww
Tarantula
Alligator
Little Michael looking at the turtles
Turtles
Tortoise wondering around the aviary
Huge Iguana just chilling out in the aviary
Not sure what this furry creature was
Look who came over to say Hello :)  He or she literally flew over to us and said Hello, How are you?

The boys in the "Rain Forest"

As you may have noticed, we had a really great time.  The boys favorite area was the Rain Forest, where a gentle shower showered you.  They went through it several times and as you can tell from the last picture, little Michael found the water leak and stood under it until he was soaked.  Which was great because it was super hot that day.  Aside from the rain forest, little Michael loved the petting farm and Dinosaur Land.  Nathan cannot recall what his favorite area was only that he was not a fan of their Dinosaur Land.  I fell in love with the aviary, which they had 3 different aviaries.  I could have spent all day in there.  They had huge tortoises, iguanas, peacocks, ducks, birds and other animals all running around and chilling out.  While taking pictures of the different animals, a beautiful white bird flew over to us, landed and said. "Hello, How are you?"  He had to say it several times for me to actually register that the bird said it and it wasn't someone behind me trying to trick me.

There is still some areas of the Shell Factory we haven't explored yet and we look forward to that adventure.

I can't wait to see where our next Family Fun Adventure takes us :)
