You can make what in a waffle maker?
I never thought about making anything other than waffles with a waffle maker. Until, someone told me about how they make their version of an omelet and how it turned out.
I must try it out :)
We pulled out our waffle maker to discover that it was a waffle stick maker :( I'm not sure if it would work with a waffle stick maker. I thought for sure I was going to have to go out and buy a regular waffle maker. Then I saw it. We received it one year for Christmas. We used it to make waffles and it didn't do a great job :( So away in the cabinet it sat until now :)
The whole family was intrigued about this. This could be awesome or it could make a complete mess.
We whisked a dozen eggs with a few splashes of almond milk. Put in 1/2 of a cup of eggs into our waffle maker with all the toppings you want on it:
Close the lid. Start your timer for 3 minutes and Viola:
A super yummy omelet. A Death Star Omelet to be exact:) I am amazed. You can even put cheese on your eggs and it cooks right in. This is so easy. We love it and plan on making omelets as often as we can.
Did you know that you can cook eggs with your waffle maker? Now, I am curious what other things can be made with a waffle maker- hmmmmm :)
Try it out and let me know what you think :)

Overnight Oats??
Who has ever heard of overnight oats? Not this momma. Until recently, that is :) I eat oatmeal every single morning. Someone asked me if I had ever tried overnight oats and how it might help with our morning rush.
Please tell me more :)
Evidently, it is so super simple. You just mix up what you would normally put in your oatmeal the night before, stick it in the fridge overnight and eat it in the morning. Simple right? I just had to try it out for myself and see what this was all about.
I got out my ingredients:
Put everything in my bowl like I normally would do for my normal cooked oatmeal:
Add cooked apples and give it a nice stir and then placed in fridge before bed:
Woke up to see the oats had soaked up the water. But how does it taste? Upon first bite~ it was super cold. Not my liking. But never fear, you can simply just heat up. You don't have to cook it, just warm it. Second bite~ I am in love. The raisins are nice and plump and the flavors- oh my:) They blended together so nicely. I never realized the flavors I was missing eating it cooked every morning.
Now I am going to experiment with different fruits and flavors :) I can hardly contain my excitement :)
Have you ever tried overnight oats? Does anyone have a recipe they want to share with me?
Please tell me more :)

Our HomeSchool Science Project :)
Nathan has been learning about the sun and how we see color. We wrapped up this chapter with a pretty neat science experiment.
Mention the word experiment and the boys sit nice and patient. They love doing experiments and I love that they are learning while experimenting:)
Anyone can do it and it is pretty cool. Want to see? Gather the following supplies to begin your very own science experiment:
Coffee Filter
Black water based marker
small cup of rubbing alcohol
piece of paper for underneath just in case:)
Next follow the pictures and instructions and have fun:)
Pretty neat- huh?? All these neat colors from one black magic marker line and some rubbing alcohol. Once you try it with your kids, let me know what they thought. My boys, even the 19 year old, thought it was really cool :) The coffee filter looks neat when it is dry and unfolded. Yes, we still have ours.
We will have more really neat experiments that I will share with you in the near future:)

Fold Coffee Filter in half and draw a rainbow shape with your black marker close to the edge of the coffee filter |

Popcorn Experiment- The Results
I know some of you are patiently waiting for the results of our popcorn experiments.
We accidentally left the popcorn bags out overnight. The next morning, I went out to check on them to discover the bag that was left outside was wet with dew. That's not good- note to self- don't leave paper bags out overnight :) That was a FAIL :(
I then went over to the van and checked on that one. All kernels were still in the bottom- no popping occurred. So, we decided to leave the bag in the van while we went house hunting in Florida. And it got HOT.
The results:
Still no popped popcorn. FAIL :(
Even though it was discouraging. we discovered that you cannot pop popcorn in your vehicle on a hot 90 degree day. We may revisit this experiment when we move to hot and steamy Florida :)

Our Popcorn Experiment
With hot, sticky summer heat, we keep seeing commercials about not leaving your pets or kids in the hot car. I have tried looking it up but cannot seem to find a specific temperature you car heats up to on a hot sunny day. I know when we get into our van, it is sometimes too hot to get into right away. Our van doesn't have an internal themometer but does have an external thermometer. According to our van thermometer, we have been having 95- 98 degree days.
Nathan had an interesting question:
Can you pop popcorn in your van on a hot summer day?
Great question. My answer- I'm not sure. You want to test it out? The look of delight on his face was priceless.
Nathan loves Science and doing any kind of experiments is right up his alley.
We put 1/3C of popping corn in 2 paper lunch bags.
One we placed on the dash board of our hot van:
The other bag we placed outside on our front porch railing:
What do you think? Will it be hot enough to popcorn either outside or in our van?
We have no clue- the bags are still outside- we have to wait and see what happens :)
