Our Adventures in Container Gardening

I just realized that I haven't done a gardening update since we've been back from vacation.

I wasn't sure how my small container garden was going to hold up.  Hubby accidentally forgot to tell the cat sitter when she came by for the key that we even had a garden out back.  So sadly, my garden didn't get watered for 8 whole days :(  I prayed that it rained.

I was very surprised upon arriving at home, my garden was still hanging on.  I have been able to baby it since we have been home, that seems to have helped :)

Cucumbers- yea!!

My cucumber plant decided to really go wild and we got a trellis.  Not a very good one but a cheap one that will do the trick until we get a better one.  I also have a zuchinni pod to plant.  So very excited.  I am keeping my fingers crossed that the plants will do well this year.  We are also in the beginning of rainy season so that helps keep my container garden well watered :)

I am so excited about my little backyard container garden :)  The plants are growing and the birds seem to be having the time of their lives pecking at my tomato plants :(  The tomatoes must be super tasty.

I cannot get over how much my plants are growing.  My cucumber plant is growing crazy fast and already has 8 cucumbers growing~ yea!!  The rest of my plants are getting taller.  I can't wait to see how the rest of the season goes for my little backyard container garden.  So far so good :)

Adventures in Container Gardening

I finally made time to re do my container garden.  We have some great new additions and 2 original plants that have been with us from when we were in the rental house.

Kevin and I got busy dumping out and refilling all the containers:

I found these neat seed pods at Lowe's and were eager to test them out so we bought them and planted them.  Has anyone seen these before?  I had never seen these pods but they looked interesting.

We planted the seed pods and the live plants we had bought.  Before long, the seed pods were sprouting.  I was so happy.  May I introduce you to my 2015 container garden:

I am quite pleased with the way the container garden is coming along.  Keep your fingers crossed that this year will be a better year for my plants :)  My green bean plants seem to be responding a lot better this time around.  It could be that they got planted in the right season this time :)  We shall see how my container garden grows :)

Adventures in Container Gardening

Our last container garden update was a sad one.  We had lost most of our container plants thanks to some freezing weather :(  We were curious to see what the last 2 container plants were going to do.

Now that the weather has warmed up, it seems our lonely last 2 plants are soaking up the rays, especially the cherry tomato plant.

Try not to be too sad for our container garden graveyard.

We are super excited that soon, we will be emptying out the containers, refilling them and replanting.  Keep your fingers crossed that this garden season will be better than last.  Each garden season is unique and provides its own learning moments.  We love it and will keep you all informed as to what is going on in our adventures in container gardening :)

Adventures in Container Gardening

Remember last month when I was super excited about my green beans.  Well, I must have jinxed myself :(

We got some icky super cold weather come through.  While I am happy we didn't get snow like some states did up north, it did get into the 30's here in Florida- Brrrrrr.  Thankfully, it was only 2 days of cold and we are back up in the 70's- ahhhhhhh :)

I don't think my plants liked it too much.  Take a look:

Oh well, at least some of my plants survived.  Spring will be here before you know it.  Now is the time to get busy researching my best options for this coming season :)  Let's keep our fingers crossed that I may do better with my container garden.  I think if I actually follow the planting guides and plant them in the correct season this time, I may have a better shot :)  We shall see :)

Adventure in Container Gardening

I am quite pleased with my little backyard container garden.  Especially, since it is technically winter.  Did I mention how much I LOVE Florida winters :)

I am super excited about my green bean babies.  I wasn't even sure it was going to grow.  Then last month, I had 1 green bean baby and I was doing the happy dance.  Now, I have 3- WOOHOO :)

Things are looking up for most of my container garden plants.  I think I will try my hand at the zuchinni plant later this year.

My last container gardening blog post, I had 5 containers still alive and doing well.

Want to guess how many I have now?

By some gardening miracle, I still have 5 containers :)  I really think they are loving their new residence.  My tomato plant grew 2 tomatoes last year at the rental. 

My lovely tomato plant has 3 tomato babies and when I went out to water it this morning, I discovered 1 more tomato baby :)

My cherry tomato plant to still giving us a few cherry tomatoes here and there.

I am excited about the 3 green pepper babies that are growing and the almost full grown one :)

1 green bean~ I will take it.  I am so excited.  I have never had any success growing anything from seed.  I took a chance and planted some green bean seeds and found this this morning.  I hope more green beans follow but will be quite happy with myself if this is the only one I get this season :)

You may have noticed, I forgot to photograph my cucumber plant.  It isn't doing anything spectacular and isn't looking so well :(  I will continue to baby it and hopefully good things will happen.

So far so good with my little container garden.

Baby Cherry Tomatoes

Those that have been following my blog for a while will notice I am down a few containers.  Some simply didn't make it.  I was so excited for my lemon cucumber plant.  I have never seen or tasted a lemon cucumber.  Unfortunately, the plant doesn't look like it did a few months ago :(

I think I have figured out the perfect spot for my full sun containers to go.  The tomatoes and green peppers seem to be liking the new sunny spot a lot better.  I was super excited to see so many cherry tomato babies growing.  I didn't take a picture but I found several green pepper babies as well- yay :)

If my green bean plant is supposed to look like that, then my brown gardening thumb maybe slightly turning green.  I will be one happy camper if we actually grow green beans :)  I have never planted green beans before so this is all new to me.  Speaking of new, I have been researching how to grow potatoes :)

We will see :)
