Aloha:)

It is great to be home:)  Sorry I never had the opportunity to update my blog the entire week we were in Hawaii- there was so much to do.  Not to mention the 3 flights there and the 3 flights back home.  And the time change messed up our internal clock.  It was strange to call my boys at home to find out that they just finished dinner and we hadn't even had a chance to eat lunch ourselves.  I can't wait to jump back into blog mode.  We are trying to readjust to our time zone again- so I will not do the weekly deals this week.  I do have a few things from Hawaii that I picked up that would make great giveaways:)  We hope you had a great week last week and will have an awesome week this week.

Mahalo (Thanks) & Aloha:)

Wanted to let you know....

Many of you already know that my husband, the baby and myself are going out of state for a week- YEA!!!  Due to all the packing and trying to get everything together and that our flight leaves at 5:45 am Sunday morning- I will not be posting any store deals for next this week.  I know many of you are sad.  However, when we return, I plan to not only post store and other deals but plan to post more about how we are climbing out of debt, some interesting challenges for those who wish to participate and some awesome exciting giveaways.  I hope to have internet access but cannot say for sure until we get out there.  If we do have internet and have a chance, I hope to do some light blogging while away as well as let everyone know that we made it ok to our destination.  This is my first plan ride as well as the babies first plane ride as well- so I am very excited.  You may be asking where we are going- I am so excited and so very blessed to be able to accompany my husband (this is a business trip for him, vacation trip for me and the baby) to Hawaii :)

If anyone would like a postcard from Hawaii, I have 10 stamps left.  Send me a quick email and let me know that would you like a postcard and I will do my best to send some out.  Email me at momstips2save@gmail.com

Have a blessed week ~ Theresa

Share a package of Kleenex

Go to the Kleenex website to send a free package of tissues to someone you care about.  I just send a pack my mom:)  You can also send a message with the tissues.  The site said that she should receive her tissues in about 14 days.  You can only send 1 pack to 1 person.  Be sure to visit the map of sharing when on the Kleenex website.

Chesterfield Berry Farm

Attention all moms:  If you live near or are planning to go to Chesterfield Berry Farm this weekend, you are in for a sweet surprise.  On October 16th & 17th, it is mothers appreciation weekend and mothers get free admission to Chesterfield Berry Farm.  We are planning to be there.  Admission includes a variety of activities including hayride out to and from the pumpkin field, an 8 acre corn maze, moon bounce, scary fun barn and so much more.  Regular admission is $11.95 per person.  Pumpkins from the pumpkin patch are now $0.29 lb, they were regularly $0.59 lb.

For more information, directions or to find out what events they will have for the rest of the month of October, please visit Chesterfield Berry Farm fall harvest page:)

Lowes Build & Grow Clinic

I am posting this early as we will away that Saturday.  Mark your calendars so you don't forget because I am not going to have the opportunity to post a reminder.

On Saturday, October 23rd, Lowes is hosting a Build & Grow Clinic.  We love these clinics and they are so much fun.  On 10/23/10 at 10 am, your child can build a Flapping Bat complete with glow in the dark stickers just in time for Halloween :)

To attend this free clinic at Lowes- simply go to the Lowes Build and Grow clinic website and sign up.  Then print out the form, sign it and bring it to your local Lowes hardware store.  Also if you have never gone before, the kids get an awesome little apron and goggles.  Each clinic they attend, they earn a badge which you sew to their apron.  It is a really cool experience that the kids as well as adults enjoy.  Plus it is something that kids can say that they built:)

Remember to...

Always make it a habit to look at your receipt before you leave the store if possible- it makes it easier if there is a problem.  If possible, watch the register to see what prices ring up as.  I know that can be difficult.  I admit I always don't watch the register because I am usually paying attention to one of the kids but I always make it a habit to scan the receipt while I'm walking to the exit.  And I'm glad I do- I was at Rite Aid and the totals didn't seem right so I scanned the register screen and found the problem- the PediaCare Gentle Vapors were ringing up $8.99 instead of $6.99.  The register said that the regular price was $8.99 and the sale price was $8.99- I asked the cashier how it could be the sale price if it is the regular price, she giggled, made sure I purchased the correct product and adjusted the price of the item for me.  This item qualifies for a single check rebate of $6.99- if I had of paid the $8.99 price and submitted it for the single check rebate, I would have only received back $6.99.  So, if you don't already do so, try to make it a habit to do a quick scan of your receipt before leaving the store especially if the totals seem off to you.

This Walgreens didn't have the Halls Cough Drops, so I visited the other Walgreens and they had them, so I purchased 2- my intention was to purchase 2 of the cough drops and use the $1/2 cpn I had but the cashier insisted on doing 2 seperate transactions so I would get (2) $1 rr- so I didn't get to use my coupon at Walgreens.  The total I spent at this Walgreens was $2 and I got back $2 rr.  That makes a total of $9 in rr that I have to use for my next shopping trip.

My next stop was at Kroger.  I purchased 4 mangos at $.99 each and spent a grand total of $4.06

My next stop was at Walmart.  My grand total was $103.01 after coupons.  Michael about fell over after seeing that amount- we haven't had a grocery total that high in a long time.  I had to remind him that we are stocking up on food for the boys and my mother in law for next week as we will be away.

My awesome meat deal

Over the weekend, I finally had an opportunity to visit our local tiny butcher shop, Chicken Beef & More.  I have been meaning to go in there for some time.  I saw an ad in our local paper that showed that they were having a sale.  A really good sale.  I made my list- I wanted to buy 5 lbs of ground beef (on sale for $1 lb), 5 lbs of chicken drumsticks (on sale for $1 lb) and 10 lbs of apples (on sale for $1 lb).  That would cost me $20 plus tax.  I arrived and browsed, the chicken drumsticks were marked down to $0.75 lb- YEA!!!!  And I found some other amazing deals.  The gentlemen running the shop were so nice and helpful and I will definitely be back.  I told my husband that if we could plan our menu around their sales, we could save even more money:)   I highly recommend if you have a local butcher shop that you check it out- you never know what amazing deals await you.  This is what I got:

I was very pleased with my purchase- when I got home on Saturday I threw what I could in the freezer- that is why some of its probably looks frozen in the picture.  I just had an opportunity to take this pic last night.
I purchased:
1 dz eggs- $1
1.12 lbs 81% ground beef- $3.39 lb-marked down to $1
0.75 lb 81% ground beef- $3.39 lb-  marked down to $0.75
5 lbs 80/20 ground beef- $1 lb- $5.00
1.86 lbs chicken legs- $0.75 lb- $1.40
1.85 lbs chicken legs- $0.75 lb- $1.39
1.70 lbs chicken legs- $0.75 lb- $1.28
1.45 lbs chicken legs- $0.75 lb- $1.09
3.47 lbs Boston Butt- $1.00 lb- $3.47
3.87 lbs Boston Butt- $1.00 lb- $3.87- this didn't make it into the picture- instead it made it into my crockpot to make shredded pork for a dinner possibility for next week.
3.22 lbs of apples- $1.00 lb- $3.22- I forgot to include the apples into the pic also

All of the above for $24.64 after tax.  I think I did a great job and only went over my initial amount of $20 by less than 5 dollars.  And all the meat will last us for about 10 meals :)

If you are not familiar with the All You magazine Walmart puts out every month- you have no idea what you are missing.  Not only do the magazines include manufacterer's coupons but they have interesting articles.  The value of the coupons itself pay for the magazine.  The normal retail value of each issue if you buy it at the store is $2.49.  Since Walmart takes off 10%, you can purchase this magazine for $2.24 an issue x 12 months and you are paying $26.88 before tax each year.  I have seen deals on the internet as well as amazon offering a year subscription to All You for around $20 a year.  But this deal will blow that out of the water.  A good friend of mine, her daughter has a school fundraiser- I took a look at it and saw that they are offering the All You magazine for an unheard of price of $25 for 30 issues- WHAT???  $25 for 2 & 1/2 yrs- that is awesome!!  That is less than the price of buying it at Walmart for 1 yr- with this deal you get 2 & 1/2 yrs.  That is $0.83 an issue- how sweet is that- plus to make things even better- if you order this deal the school gets $10 from this alone.  Now if $25 is too steep for you to pay right now, they also have a 15 issue subscription for $15- that is $1 an issue- still an awesome price and the school will get $6 from that purchase.  They also have other items for sale and other magazines also.  I just wanted to tell you about this fantastic deal on the All You magazine- I have never seen the subscription price so low.  The fundraiser was supposed to end today :(  But my good friend called the school and the school is letting her daughter take orders and turn everything in on Monday, which means that this offer is good for the rest of the weekend :)  Plus you will be ordering online, so she will automatically get credit.  You may be asking- How do I go about ordering this fantastic deal?  Its so easy- I just ordered a 30 issue subscription myself.

Here's how:
1) Visit Great American Online
2) It will ask for an ID number on the right- enter 961235
3) It will ask you for the childs name- please enter:  Kaitlyn Hennessy
4) Search for All You on the left hand box and the magazine will come right up

Follow the directions- enter your payment info and you are done :)  You not only will be getting an amazing deal you will helping out a wonderful young lady's school.

Time saving tip

Did you know.....

That is takes the same time to prepare 1 cup of rice that it does the whole bag??  When I go grocery shopping and need rice, I immediately pick up a 2 lb bag of long grain rice.  When we want to have rice with dinner, I use 4 cups of rice and 8 cups of water (you will have a half of a cup leftover- I put this in a ziploc bag in my pantry and add to it until it becomes a full cup and will use it then).  Let it come to a boil- reduce the heat to simmer, put a lid on it and walk away from it for 20 minutes.  When 20 minutes is up, we have a large pot of rice. We eat however much we are going to eat with dinner.  When dinner is over, we put the rice in a gallon ziploc bag and throw it into the freezer to have the next week we have rice.  We found out that you can freeze already cooked rice and when you want to use it, microwave it and it tastes just the same as if you just cooked it.  It works for us and it is one less thing I have to worry about when cooking dinner :)

My super awesome shopping day :)

I wanted to post this last night but unfortunately did not have the strength to do so.  We had a family reunion over the weekend in MD- we had fun despite the cold weather and the rain spits :)  The kids had a blast at the huge playground that the park has.  By the time we got home, it was late and we were all exhausted.  The baby slept the whole way home so he was up for a while after we got home.  So I didn't get alot of sleep Sunday night and had to rise bright and early to get the boys up and off to school Monday morning.  Mondays are my shopping days, so needless to say I was so tired last night and barely had the energy to post the CVS, Rite Aid and Walgreens deals.  The baby only got up 1 time last night so I am energized and ready to post today :)  So here are the shopping deals I got yesterday.  I think I did pretty good:

CVS

Revlon Nail Polish- $3.99
Colgate pro Clinical Toothpaste- $3.99
Shick Hydro 3 Razor

Cpns I used:
$1 Colgate toothpaste 9/19 SS
$4 Shick Hydro 3 razor- 10/3 SS
$7.99 ECB's
Grand total including tax: $4.76
I received $9.50 in ECB's- YEA!!!
And I got $1 Summer ECB- so that is $10.50 in ECB's for next week :)

Walgreens

EOS Fruit Lip Balm- $3.00
Oral B toothbrush- $1.99
Shick Hydro 5 razor- $7.99
Halloween Cups- $1/3

Cpns I used:
$4 Shick Hydo 5 cpn- 10/3 SS
$0.75 Oral B toothbrush cpn- P&G mailer
$5 rr
$2 rr
Grand total including tax: $2.93
I got $8 in rr's
I would have a lower out of pocket expense but Walgreens policy states that the total number of manufacturers coupons and register rewards cannot exceed the number of items in the transaction.  I had 3 items- 2 cpns and 2 register rewards, so I had to add 1 item- but the cups were so cute and I knew it would be a fight if I only brought home 1 cup.  I still came out pretty good :)

Rite Aid

Huggies Pure & Natural- $7.99
Dove Dark Chocolate- $4.99
Dove Milk Chocolate- $4.99
York Peppermint Patty- $0.50 x 2
Oral B 3D vivid white toothbrush- $2.69
Shick Hydro 5 razor- $5.99

$1 Dove chocolate cpn- 8/15 RP
$4 Shick Hydro 5 razor- 10/3 10/3 SS
$0.50 Dove chocolate cpn- 8/29 RP
$7 Up Rewards
Grand total after tax: $4.41
I received $4.68 in Up Rewards
**Please note my out of pocket should have been lower but I bought the wrong Dove chocolate, so I didn't get the $1 Up for the Dove- but all things considered I think I still did really well.  I still have $13.50 in Up Rewards from last week and I received a 10% off shopping pass also.

I would love to hear how everyone made out- leave me a comment and let me know.

Have a blessed week :)
