Excited for Spring:)

I am so excited that Spring is here.  The weather is absolutely beautiful.  The boys love being able to spend time outside after dinner running out their energy:)

Also with Spring means gardening- YEA!!!!!  I had such great luck with my garden last year that I knew I had to plant again this year.  We actually made a garden plan after last season, so it would be easier to know exactly what we wanted to plant this year.

We have decided to give lettuce and broccoli another try.  We have also planted tomatoes, grape vines and this year have 2 strawberry baskets.  Here are some pictures of our garden just beginning:

March 2012 project~ Foaming Hand Soap

YEA!!  I am posting this project while we are still in March:)  This months project was to make foaming hand soap.   I wasn't sure what to expect.  But after reading the directions, I about kicked myself for waiting so long to try this out.  This is so super simple to make.  My 7 yr old can make this without a problem.  And my 2yr old loves squeezing the foam through his fingers.  When we run out, we just refill instead of having to buy a whole new handsoap container.

Here is how you make this super simple foaming hand soap:

First you need an empty foaming hand soap container and some dish soap.  I recycled the hand soap container we bought from Walmart.

You pour a small amount of the dish liquid in the empty foaming hand soap container.  I fill almost to the bottom of the label like this:

Then fill the soap container to the fill line with water.

Put the foaming top on and gently turn from side to side:

You are done making foaming hand soap.  Now for the fun part, testing it out:

Nice luxious foaming hand soap and so super simple to make.

Doesn't it make you want to make some?   Go ahead, it is sooooo easy.

This weekend has been a crazy but great weekend.  Remember the consignment sale I was talking about?  Well, we got everything we had cleaned, tagged and entered together and loaded it all in the van.  We had to take out a back seat just to make room just so the toys would fit.  We drapped all the clothes in the 2 carseats.  That will give you an idea of how much stuff we had.  I am pretty sure when I looked at my item count it said 107.  I wish I had of taken a picture of the van packed up before we left. 

Everyone was super nice and helpful.  I couldn't believe when I logged in, at the end of the sale, how much of my stuff sold and how much the check I will be receiving is.  Way more than I have ever made at a yard sale.  I am so excited. 

I still have a house full of stuff and look forward to decluttering more for the next consignment sale in September:)

Air Force JROTC & Kevin

This is Kevin's first year of Air Force JRTOC and he is loving it.  We are so proud of his accomplishments.  You should have seen the huge smile on his face when he came home with his first set of ranks.  He has been staying after school and participating in the Color Guard.  He was so excited when he got his Color Guard cord.

Both Kevin and Christopher have worked so hard for all their accomplishments. Which makes it so hard to say goodbye to the AFJROTC program. We just found out that due to the lack of students in the JROTC program that the Air Force has decided to pull its program from our high school.  It makes me so sad to hear this.  I have seen what the JRTOC program has done for 2 of my children. 

But for the rest of this school year, we will continue to support our children and look forward to seeing what they can accomplish this school year.

Kids Consignment Sales

Have you been?  What do you think about them?

Last year, I was at my parents house and noticed signs on the side of the road.  I made a mental note of the name but didn't write it down.  And most of you know that unless I actually write something down, I have a tendency of forgetting it.  And I did forget to look it up when I got home.  Luckily, we eat lunch at my parents house every Sunday after church, so I saw the signs over and over again.

When I did happen to remember to check out the consignment sales, I could only remember the name and not the website.  So I googled it and came up with 2 consignment sales that I wanted to try to go to.  Their names are very similiar~ Kids Closet Connection and Kids Kloset. 

I found that Kids Kloset was closer to my parents house and Kids Closet was closer to me.  Luckily, they had different sales dates.  We went to both of the consignment sales on their last day, when most of the items are 50% off:)

One of the sales we didn't find much, they were pretty bare by the time we got their after church.  But the other we found lots of clothes and toys and were able to get a large Christmas present for little Michael and Nathan for 1/4 of the original price.

If you are looking for a great way to get kids clothes, toys, feeding, etc, you should check out kids consignment sales.  Or if you are looking for a way to make a little extra cash, try consigning your kids stuff.  You should check out different local sales as they all have different fees they charge and differenr percentages of what you get back for selling with them.

I am going through the house now and am getting ready for the consignment sale in Chesterfield next week.  This is our first time partcipating in a consignment sale, so we shall see how it goes.

Not so fun....

You may have noticed my absence from here.  This week has been full of not so fun events- actually just 2 but it is enough for this week alone.  I woke up Monday not feeling well at all~ hot, cold, throwing up- YUCK!! Muscle aches, super tired and alot of sinus drainage.  I waited for Michael to get up and fell back asleep on the couch until lunch.  I was feeling a little better.  So, I drug myself to the store so that we could eat for the week.  I am still very stuffy but am feeling alot better now.  I took the last couple of days off to relax as much as I could with a 2 yr old at home.  Trying to recooperate.  The older boys have been a big help with Michael gone for the week for work.

Tuesday started off like any other day- everything was normal until I hear this WHACK!! I went to the door to see Kevin laying part way on the porch crying. I asked what in the world he was doing. He replied that he had fallen. Not down the steps like you would think on a slick porch. Kevin somehow managed to miss the step and fell up the steps hitting his hip. He seemed OK and went to school for a little while before going to the school nurse in a lot of pain. I picked him up and off to the doctor we went. She sent him off for xrays. I think the xray techs know us by name now. Kevin and I joked that they have most of his body parts on xray- LOL:) He is doing better now- still in a little pain but taking it easy as he is supposed to. We found out today that the results of the xray were normal. I can safely say there is never a dull moment in this house:)
