Dancing in the rain :)

Last week was a crazy week for us.  We found out Michael's grandfather passed away, had a Financial Peace class at church on Wednesday, found out the funeral arrangements, had to figure out how to get to PA for the funeral since I don't trust my van to make the long drive, finally ordered all the homeschool books, called the cat sitter and had her come out to the new house.  Throw in grocery shopping, laundry, packing and getting things done around here~ it was crazy.

One evening, I was in the kitchen making dinner and Michael was arranging the garage.  The boys were all involved in something and I had a few seconds of quiet.  It doesn't happen often.  I will take it when I can get it, even if it is in the middle of cooking dinner :)

I remember listening to the rain pitter patter on the roof.  I love that peaceful sound.  Then the silence broke~ my 5 year old yelled down the hall, "Mom come here.  I want to show you something."

This is what I found:
A drenched sweet little one :)

I asked him what he was doing and he told me~ playing in the rain.  I ran inside and got my camera.

As I sat outside and watched my carefree 5 year old play in the rain, it hit me~ the house doesn't need to be cleaned right NOW, the dishes don't need to be washed right NOW, the laundry doesn't need to be done right NOW.  What I need to do right NOW was to watch my son, love my son and play with him in the rain.

Life will go right back to normal when I get back to it.  Sometimes you just NEED to play in the rain.  Sometimes you NEED to act like a carefree 5 year old and just enjoy life and just have fun.

One thing I learned from my mom and Michael's grandfather is today is a blessing.  Being with my family is a blessing.  Tomorrow is never promised to anyone.  Take the time to enjoy life~ play with your family, love on your family and play in the rain.  Life will be there when you get back to it :)

Saturday Family Fun

What did we do this Saturday?  I really wanted to venture out and explore some more of this interesting state we live in.  Unfortunately, we did not get to explore :(

Chris rode his bike to the library and didn't listen to his all wise and smart mother and did not put on sunscreen.  He got really super duper burnt.  Poor thing, it hurt to move, let alone put on a shirt.  Plus my allergies were in full force and I just wasn't feeling well myself.  So, we decided to stay at home.

One thing I have wanted to get going but haven't had a chance to is my garden.  I couldn't wait to find just the right spot for my awesome garden.  We hunted and hunted and are sad to report that there is no good spot to plant a garden.  So, we will continue to container garden and see how they like the weather over here:)

When we moved over here, I had 3 containers left~ cherry tomato, regular tomato and green pepper.  They are still alive :)  We have added to our container garden.  I have a squash plant and a lemon cucumber plant~ not sure of the lemon cucumber but it sounds interesting so we shall see :)  I also finally planted my green bean seed and some cucumber seeds and are quite happy with what as sprouted already.  I normally don't have any luck with seeds but it seems my brown thumb may be changing colors :)  Maybe :)

So far, the plants seems to like the partial shaded back yard.  So far so good :)
My green bean babies are growing up~ I am so proud :)
My baby cucumber plant
Squash

Lemon cucumber plant
Green Pepper plant

Tomatoes
For all those wandering, Christopher's nasty sunburn has healed nicely.  Is he slathering on the sunscreen, you might ask????  Why of course not, he is a teenager/young adult and knows everything~ LOL :)

Lowe's Build & Grow Clinic~ September 13,2014

Lowe's will be hosting a Build & Grow Clinic on September 13th at 10am.  My younger boys love doing them and the older ones love helping the younger ones with their project:)

If you are looking for a great free activity that you can do with your kids- you should check out the Lowe's Build & Grow Clinics. Little Michael and Nathan love them. They love being able to do hands on projects with our help.

To sign up for this Build & Grow Clinic, simply go to the Lowe's Build & Grow Clinic website, which they have redone to make it more user friendly. I am loving this new website. You register all your information. Then when you visit the website to sign up for an upcoming clinic, all you have to do is sign in and check which kids you are signing up. Don't forget to print and sign the waiver. And you and your child(ren) are ready for a really cool FREE hands on project.

Once you and your child(ren) complete the project they will receive a neat patch to put on their Lowe's Build & Grow apron. If this is your first clinic, your child(ren) will receive a free Lowe's Build & Grow apron and goggles:) The more clinics you do, the more patches you get to put on your kids apron and they can show them off with pride:)

August 2014 Monthly Goals

I wanted to get this out last night but hubby and I were at a Financial Peace University class at our church last night and got out later than we had expected :(

Let's see how we did with our August 2014 goals:

 1) To not eat out or at least to not pay out of pocket, with the exception of tips. If we want to treat the family to a meal out, we will make sure we have a gift card to cover all of us.
Did fabulous with this.

2) Pay off 2 credit cards
Still working on this- getting closer than we were last month :)

3) Not to use any of our credit cards for 2014. To pay cash for everything.
We did fantastic with this goal and paid cash.

4) To maintain our grocery budget. Our current grocery budget is $400 month for our family of 6. Our goal is to use up to that amount to feed our family healthy nourishing meals.  If we are lucky enough to come under our monthly budget, we will save that amount.
We did good in August and still had $13.60 left, which we can add to the money from May's leftover grocery money :)

5) To create a monthly meal plan for our family, to use leftovers more efficiently and to make use of everything in our pantry and freezer.  Try our hand at freezer cooking.
Doing great with meal planning.

6) Lose weight- I need to get motivated to lose this baby weight- my goal is to lose 10 lbs this year.
I have really been motivated and watching what I am eating.  I have been eating more fruits and veggies and doing Chris Powell's workouts on YouTube and have lost 2 pounds :)

7) Morning devotions, prayer time and more bible reading
Following a bible reading on my church's website:)

8) Monthly date night with hubby- whether we go out or stay at home, pop popcorn and rent a movie
We didn't have a chance to do a date night.  We have a movie gift card, now we need to settle on a date :)

9) To spend quality family time together. With everyones schedule and us running all over creation, I would love to spend more quality time together- no tv- us playing games, talking, enjoying each others company.  I think we are going to claim Saturday's as family fun day:)
In August, we moved into our new house, went to the beach and enjoyed a day of together :)

10) Not to use our dryer to save on electricity and lower our electricity bill
Doing great with this and haven't not used the dryer.  I am loving this weather.  I hang the clothes up on clothes racks and next day they are dry:)

11) To do 1 project a month and blog about it
With everything going on, we didn't get a chance to do our monthly projects for a couple of months now :(

How did you do on your July goals?

Our Menu Plan for the week of 08/31/2014

Can you believe August is over?  It came and went entirely way too fast :(

Since my Aldi's post, I have been thinking whether or not it would be worth the drive since we don't have an Aldi's in this county.  My concern is that I make the long drive and may be disappointed by what I find.  Not ever going to one, I have no idea what the store is even like.  I keep tossing the idea back and forth in my head.

I came across a blog where the author planned 25 dinner meals, shopped at Aldi's and spent below $150.  I was very curious as I read :)

I decided to copy her list and see what the same ingredients would cost me using the stores and sales I have available in my area:)  Let's see how it turns out:)
