Family Fun Saturday

For this family fun Saturday, we decided to do something a little different.

We decided to stay home and enjoy not going anywhere, not moving anything and not unpacking anything:)

Even though we didn't go anywhere, we still had fun and got a lot of much needed things done.

My day started before everyone stumbled out of bed.  It was nice to sit out on the lanai, just me, a book, a nice cup of coffee and a breeze.  It was a nice way to start my morning :)
When most everyone was up, Nathan, little Michael and I made Applesauce Raisin muffins.  I thought they were scrumptious.  We discovered that little Michael doesn't care for raisins anymore.
After breakfast, we got chicken broth cooking for the nights dinner:
Even the kitties got in some tag, hide and seek and just chilling time:

We had fun, played games and chatted.  Kevin and I even went out for a run.  We ended the night with a card game called Trash.  Ms. Priscilla, Nathan's buddy at Respite Night, taught us how to play.  It has become Nathan's favorite card game.  We play every chance we get:
It was nice to just stay at home and enjoy each others company, especially with everything we have going on right now in our lives.

I think next Saturday, we will venture out and explore.  Until then...............

Talk to me about Aldi's

What do you think of Aldi's grocery stores?  Do you love them, not like them or are they just OK?

I have been hearing some interesting things about Aldi's.  I have heard that they have a decently priced organic section.  Other than the farmer's markets, organic foods here are way out of my price range.  I have seen others awesome shopping trips.

We were excited when we were going to buy my dad's house.  There was an Aldi's 20 minutes away :)  Here, not so close.  I found an Aldi's in Brandenton~ that is 65 miles out, which is roughly 90 minutes away.  Did I mention that is 1 way?  :(

The more I think about it, the more curious I become.  Would you travel 3 hours round trip for your grocery shopping or am I out of my mind?  Mind you, if I did travel 3 hours round trip for my grocery trip, you better believe that it would be for the whole month.

Hubby has figured out that it would cost roughly $20 in gas round trip but if it would save us money, would it be worth the drive?

So, talk to me about your thoughts on Aldi's............

Our Family Fun Saturday

We are officially moved in, the rental has been super duper deep cleaned and the landlord has already listed it for rent :)  We wanted to do something with the boys that didn't involve packing, unpacking or cleaning.  Hmmm~ where to go.  What to do??

Hubby came up with a fabulous idea~ a trip to the beach :)  But not the beach here in Cape Coral, the big beach~ The Gulf of Mexico.  Where the water is warm and it takes an hour to get to.  Chris elected not to go and missed out on all the awesome fun.

Here are some pictures of our awesome good time:
All packed up and ready to head out
The Gulf of Mexico

The Gulf of Mexico
Hubby & Nathan
This is as close as little Michael wanted to go in- he just wanted to splash Kevin and he was done :)
The boys, well most of them, had a blast and were wore out by the time we left.  Even though we left the floaties at home and daddy lost Nathan's goggles.  They fell out of his pocket and are in the Gulf of Mexico somewhere.  I can't help but think of Finding Nemo, where Dory finds the goggles.  Maybe some fish is having a blast with Nathan's goggles.  The water was so nice and warm and very salty :)  I picked little Michael up and went out in the water deeper.  That was the only way he was getting in the water.  All in all, I think everyone had a nice time, even though little Michael has exclaimed that we should not go back to the beach anymore.  Let's see how long that lasts.

I can't wait to see where our next adventure take us :)

Lowes Build & Grow Clinic~ August 23, 2014

Lowe's will be hosting a Build & Grow Clinic on August 23rd at 10am.  My younger boys love doing them and the older ones love helping the younger ones with their project:)

If you are looking for a great free activity that you can do with your kids- you should check out the Lowe's Build & Grow Clinics. Little Michael and Nathan love them. They love being able to do hands on projects with our help.
To sign up for this Build & Grow Clinic, simply go to the Lowe's Build & Grow Clinic website, which they have redone to make it more user friendly. I am loving this new website. You register all your information. Then when you visit the website to sign up for an upcoming clinic, all you have to do is sign in and check which kids you are signing up. Don't forget to print and sign the waiver. And you and your child(ren) are ready for a really cool FREE hands on project.

Once you and your child(ren) complete the project they will receive a neat patch to put on their Lowe's Build & Grow apron. If this is your first clinic, your child(ren) will receive a free Lowe's Build & Grow apron and goggles:) The more clinics you do, the more patches you get to put on your kids apron and they can show them off with pride:)

Our Family Fun Saturday :)

It made sense in my head.  We closed on our house in late June.  That way, we could take our time and move stuff over at our leisure.  At least, that is what I had planned.  I had no idea of the feelings I would be feeling as soon as they placed our new house keys in our hands :)

I must confess, a week before closing, I started packing up non essentials :)  The day after we got our keys, Chris and I were making up to 4 trips back and forth to the house.  We took out the back seats and loaded my van up.  I wish I had taken pictures, there was so much to move.  Then we would unload and do it again.  We had made the few repairs we needed to make.
The once, taking our time to move in feeling was gone and I wanted to be in our new house as soon as possible.  I couldn't wait.  I was like a kid on Christmas morning patiently waiting- LOL :)  Hubby and I rented a Uhaul and loaded all the big furniture in.
Little Michael wanted to help and was quite excited when we told him he could take the couch cushions off the couch and throw them on the floor.  That made his day:
Nathan didn't want to do anything but decided to hide out while we packed:
I wish I could say our move went perfectly and we had no issues- that would be nice but not likely given our strand of luck:)  Chris and I were taking over the dresser drawers and the dishes, etc that we needed.  Everything was going fine that is until the radio went out in my van, no biggie.  Then the gauges on my dashboard started going crazy.  Fuel gauge full, empty, full, empty.  Speedometer was reading I was going 120 even though I was stopped at a stop sign.  It was rather freaky and so not cool :(  I went to go through the intersection and my car died, right in the middle of the intersection.  Scared the daylights out of both Chris and I.  Then like nothing happened, it cut back on :(  It did not want to make it back to the rental but we did finally.  Told hubby what was going on and handed him the keys, I was not driving this thing to the mechanic.  Pause on moving :(

Luckily, we have a wonderful mechanic who let us use his car to get hubby's work truck, so were weren't stranded at the shop.  Unfortunately, he couldn't find anything wrong with my van :(  I told you it was possessed :)  LOL :)

Back to moving, we finally get the Uhaul packed and after only 2 Uhaul trips, we are finally moved into our new house- yay :)  We love living here.  The cats are adjusting quite well and love our big new lanai:
Michael loves being able to eat at the breakfast bar:
Kevin loves that there is a canal across the street and has been going fishing every chance he can:
The younger boys seemed a little too excited about a bathroom being on the lanai:
Some of my loves include the screened in front door area, my kitchen and let's not forget my wonderful washer and dryer :)
Since we did some major purging before moving down here, I have more cabinet space than stuff to put in them :)
I am sure it won't take too terribly long for me to fill the 2 empty cabinets with something :)
We are very blessed to be living here.  The family that lived here before us, that we got the pleasure of meeting and chatting with, is absolutely wonderful.  They left so much for us here and we are very thankful :)

Even though moving day did not go as expected and took longer than it needed to, we are very happy to finally be moved in.  Now to unpack, that is a whole different battle :)

I can't wait to see where our next family adventure takes us :)

My Shopping Day~ 08/10/2014

My van has had a mind of its own recently.  It randomly cuts off on me, especially in the middle of intersections, which scare the day lights of me :(  We took it to the mechanic who cannot find anything wrong.  Figures.

Because of my van issues, this time hubby came with me.  Luckily, he did because as soon as I got over the bridge and onto the road we were supposed to be on, my van decided to cut off.  I got over and attempt to coast into a gas station.  All of a sudden, like nothing had even happened, my van cuts right back on.  I have never seen any vehicle do that before.  I think my van is possessed :)  It drove fine for the rest of the day.

July 2014 Monthly Goals

Let's see how we did with our July 2014 goals:

 1) To not eat out or at least to not pay out of pocket, with the exception of tips. If we want to treat the family to a meal out, we will make sure we have a gift card to cover all of us.
Did fabulous with this.

2) Pay off 2 credit cards
Still working on this- getting closer than we were last month :)

3) Not to use any of our credit cards for 2014. To pay cash for everything.
We did fantastic with this goal and paid cash.

4) To maintain our grocery budget. Our current grocery budget is $400 month for our family of 6. Our goal is to use up to that amount to feed our family healthy nourishing meals.  If we are lucky enough to come under our monthly budget, we will save that amount.
We did ok in July and only went over by $29, which we were able to cover with May's leftover grocery money :)

5) To create a monthly meal plan for our family, to use leftovers more efficiently and to make use of everything in our pantry and freezer.  Try our hand at freezer cooking.
Doing great with meal planning.

6) Lose weight- I need to get motivated to lose this baby weight- my goal is to lose 10 lbs this year.
We really need to be more motivated with this goal.  Getting everything ready to move, we kind of lost sight of exercising and thanks to not watching what I ate, (I mean I always "watch" what I eat, I just didn't always make the healthiest decisions as to what I was putting in my mouth) I now need to lose 15 pounds.   I do not like the fact that it is easier to gain weight than to lose it.  Once we get settled into our new home, we plan to get more motivated to losing the weight we need to lose.

7) Morning devotions, prayer time and more bible reading
Following a bible reading on my church's website:)

8) Monthly date night with hubby- whether we go out or stay at home, pop popcorn and rent a movie
We didn't have a chance to do a date night.  We have a movie gift card, now we need to settle on a date :)

9) To spend quality family time together. With everyones schedule and us running all over creation, I would love to spend more quality time together- no tv- us playing games, talking, enjoying each others company.  I think we are going to claim Saturday's as family fun day:)
The only thing we did in July as far as family fun time, unless you want to count cleaning and packing up the rental as family fun time, was our fabulous 4th of July.  Once we get settled, we need to do more outings.

10) Not to use our dryer to save on electricity and lower our electricity bill
Doing great with this and haven't not used the dryer.  I am loving this weather.  I hang the clothes up on clothes racks and next day they are dry:)

11) To do 1 project a month and blog about it
With everything going on, we didn't get a chance to do our monthly projects for a couple of months now :(

How did you do on your July goals?

Lowe's Build & Grow Clinic~ 08/09/2014

Lowes will be hosting a Build & Grow Clinic on August 9th at 10am.  My younger boys love doing them and the older ones love helping the younger ones with their project:)

If you are looking for a great free activity that you can do with your kids- you should check out the Lowes Build & Grow Clinics. Little Michael and Nathan love them. They love being able to do hands on projects with our help.

To sign up for this Build & Grow Clinic, simply go to the Lowes Build & Grow Clinic website, which they have redone to make it more user friendly. I am loving this new website. You register all your information. Then when you visit the website to sign up for an upcoming clinic, all you have to do is sign in and check which kids you are signing up. Don't forget to print and sign the waiver. And you and your child(ren) are ready for a really cool FREE hands on project.

Once you and your child(ren) complete the project they will receive a neat patch to put on their Lowes Build & Grow apron. If this is your first clinic, your child(ren) will receive a free Lowes Build & Grow apron and goggles:) The more clinics you do, the more patches you get to put on your kids apron and they can show them off with pride:)
