Adventures in Container Gardening
I cannot believe that my last garden update was in September- oh my :(
For those wondering how my tiny backyard container garden is going, here you go:
Those that have been following my blog for a while will notice I am down a few containers. Some simply didn't make it. I was so excited for my lemon cucumber plant. I have never seen or tasted a lemon cucumber. Unfortunately, the plant doesn't look like it did a few months ago :(
I think I have figured out the perfect spot for my full sun containers to go. The tomatoes and green peppers seem to be liking the new sunny spot a lot better. I was super excited to see so many cherry tomato babies growing. I didn't take a picture but I found several green pepper babies as well- yay :)
If my green bean plant is supposed to look like that, then my brown gardening thumb maybe slightly turning green. I will be one happy camper if we actually grow green beans :) I have never planted green beans before so this is all new to me. Speaking of new, I have been researching how to grow potatoes :)
We will see :)

Our Shopping Day~ 10/26/2014
Can you believe it?? October will be over soon- nooooo :( This month is flying by way to fast. This year seems to be flying by. My boys are in Christmas countdown mode and it is not even Halloween yet. I am not ready for Christmas yet.
There was a blessing for not having the internet for part of last week. It gave us a chance to get away from the tv and electronics for a few days. We rely way to heavily on technology and it is nice to get away for a while and just to hang out.

Our Family Fun Saturday
Somehow, I woke up before the boys did. I am not sure how that happened. I usually get woken up by a certain 10 year old or 5 year old :)
I could smell the coffee brewing so I knew it had to be 7am or after. I decided to get up and start the day. By the time everyone woke up, I was in the middle of making a double batch of pancakes, dark chocolate granola and applesauce muffins. It has been so nice to not have to make breakfast for everyone every morning this week. I think I may have to do some weekend baking more often.
I knew that Saturday evening was Respite Night so we decided to pack a lunch and head back out to Calusa Nature Center and Planetarium for the afternoon. As always we had a great time at Calusa Nature Center and even had time for a really interesting Planetarium show before heading home. The animal show guy was great. I was not sure if his shows were the same every time. I asked him and he said that his shows were not the same, which is great for members like us.
Here are some pictures of the animal show and of Calusa Nature Center:
We always have a great time at Calusa Nature Center and Planetarium.
After church on Sunday, we visited our church's Pumpkin Patch. Michael picked out a nice big pumpkin. Nathan had already gotten and carved a pumpkin at Respite Night. I accidentally forgot my camera- opps, so no pictures of the pumpkin patch. I will try to remember and take a few this Sunday :)
As you can see, we had a great and fun filled weekend. Next week and weekend are going to be filled with so much fun and excitement.
I can't wait to tell you about our next Family Fun Adventures :)

Our Store Experiment Challenge~ September
I was super impressed with Lauren from Iamthatlady.com and her ability to design a meal plan for her family of 6 for under $150. And she did it all shopping at Aldi's.
Since, we do not have an Aldi's near us, I wanted to see what I could do with the same meal plan and the stores I have available to us for our family of 6.
Here is how we did:
$1.98- 2 Avocados
$0.99- BBQ sauce
$0.88- Carrots
$3.96- 2 Salsa
$1.98- Celery
$8.64- Cheddar Cheese
$0.00- Beef Broth- had in pantry
$1.08- Bread Crumbs
$1.98- Couscous
$5.96- Black Beans
$1.00- Kidney Beans
$1.98- 2 dozen eggs
$1.72- Feta Cheese
$4.18- 2 packages Kielbasa
$3.56- Flour Tortillas
$2.38- Spinach
$2.94- Broccoli
$1.96- Frozen Corn
$0.88- Garlic
$4.00- 6 huge Green Peppers
$8.94- Ground Turkey
$3.98- 2 Hamburger Buns
$6.98- Crushed Tomatoes
$1.38- Brown Rice
$0.00- Italian Dressing- had in pantry
$0.00- Corn Bread- had in pantry
$19.99- BLSL Chicken
$2.00- Different Colored Peppers
$0.00- Onions- didn't buy because we don't use onions often

$2.00- 2 Farfalle
$2.00- 2 Macaroni noodles
$6.99- Tilapia

With some pretty awesome sales and using a few items from our pantry, we did a pretty great job of keeping it under $150- yay :) I am so impressed.
To see Lauren's price break down and the recipes she used for her meal plan, visit her website. If you have an Aldi's near by, Lauren also offers a printable pack for under $2. That gives you detailed recipes, menu planner and a shopping list :) My family loved all the recipes in this menu plan :)

Purex Crystals Aromatherapy Review & Giveaway
I love Purex and when asked if I would be interested in testing out a new Purex product, I jumped at the chance :)
Introducing new Purex Crystals Aromatherapy
I am in love with this great smelling product. I was sent Well Being to test out. At first sniff, I knew this would be a great scent for me. It is so calming and relaxing. And since we line dry our clothes in the house, it fills my house with a nice airy scent. Plus it is safe for all washers including HE :)
There are 3 scents to chose from:
Well Being brightens any mood with the happy fragrance of fresh blossoms
Energy helps you tackle any day with the stimulating power of citrus
Serenity keeps you calm all day long with the gentle scent of water-lilies
Want to see if Purex Crystals Aromatherapy is a right fit for your family? Purex was so sweet to send me 3 coupons for my wonderful readers to try out.
To enter to receive 1 coupon, simply comment below and you will be entered- super easy :) This coupon giveaway will end on October 31st at 11:59 pm. Winners will be chosen and emailed (if email address is left in comments) on November 3rd.
**The Purex brand provided me with a sample of Purex Crystals Aromatherapy in exchange for a product review. However, all opinions expressed here are my very own**

Using Purex Crystals is super easy. It comes with a built in measuring cap. Just measure out how much you want to use and put it in your washer before filling it. Put in as much as you want~ more for a more intense scent and less for a nice light scent.
I also love that it is pink :) |

Our Family Adventure
I know some of you are dying to find out the secret location Kevin and I flew to :)
A few months ago, my dad called and told me that he had found the one he wanted to share the rest of his life with and wanted to know my feelings about asking Lynn, his girlfriend, to marry him. While I was deeply touched by the gesture, my dad is his own person and will do what he wants to do no matter what anyone thinks. Luckily, I love Lynn. So no problems here. All I want is for my dad to be happy.
When my mom passed away, I literally watched my father fall apart. He was loosing way too much weight too fast. I took him to multiple doctor appointments and no one could find anything wrong with him other than dealing with grief. It is such a horrible sight to see your parent withering away, while there is nothing you can do about it.
God must have heard our prayers. Lynn walked into my dad's life and helped him with the grief. She picked up the pieces of his shattered life and put them back together. I am forever grateful to Lynn for saving my dad's life. Who knows where my dad would be if it were not for Lynn. They complete each other and the love they share literally beams off of them :)
Any who, I got sidetracked for a minute. My dad called and told me his plans. I knew I had to be there for him. At that moment, I didn't think it was going to work out financially so I told my dad we couldn't make it to SC. My hubby saw I really wanted to go so he encouraged me to go. I would have loved to have taken the whole family with me on this special trip but funding was not in our favor.
I had been in contact with Lynn's daughter and she told me that if we could find a way up she would not only pick us up at the airport, she would let us stay at her house :) That night I booked the flight for Kevin and I to fly up to SC. But we didn't tell my dad- shhhh :) I told my dad that we had a homeschool conference to go to that weekend and couldn't make it. He said no worries and that Michelle would tape the whole thing and send to me. hehehe
Michelle snuck us into my dad's house and told him to come inside for a birthday surprise. The look on my dad's face as he saw Kevin and I was priceless. Unfortunately, my dad had socks on. If you have ever seen a cat or dog trying to get traction and run on tile floor, well that was my dad and he was trying to make his way across the kitchen. It was historical.
My dad got another surprise later that evening as my brother and his girlfriend drove down to surprise my dad. Luckily, Lynn thought that we had come to the house for my dad's birthday. hehehe
Sunday came and it was my dad's birthday. He decided that he wanted to eat at Red Lobster. We eat and Kevin got Endless Shrimp and ate his weight in shrimp :)
The time comes and dad tells Lynn that he bought her something to wear for her birthday the next day. She looks confused but said OK. Dad pulls out a shoe but it was Michelle's shoe- oops. Then he tells her that he loves her and wants to ask her if she would marry him. She thinks for a minute and says YES!!!!
I am so excited for them both. They are so happy together. I am glad I got to share in his happy occasion with them. It is not everyday you get to see your father proposing.
Now I am on the ground and looking forward to getting everything back to normal.
I can't wait to see where our next adventure will take us :)

September 2014 Monthly Goals
Let's see how we did with our September 2014 goals:
1) To not eat out or at least to not pay out of pocket, with the exception of tips. If we want to treat the family to a meal out, we will make sure we have a gift card to cover all of us.
Doing fabulous with this.
2) Pay off 2 credit cards
We paid off another credit card- WOOHOO. I am so proud of us ~ YAY!!!! That brings the grand total to 4 credit cards we have paid off and only 2 to go :)
3) Not to use any of our credit cards for 2014. To pay cash for everything.
We did fantastic with this goal and paid cash.
4) To maintain our grocery budget. Our current grocery budget is $400 month for our family of 6. Our goal is to use up to that amount to feed our family healthy nourishing meals. If we are lucky enough to come under our monthly budget, we will save that amount.
We didn't do as well as I would have hoped for but we didn't do too terribly bad. We went over by $13.00.
5) To create a monthly meal plan for our family, to use leftovers more efficiently and to make use of everything in our pantry and freezer. Try our hand at freezer cooking.
Doing great with meal planning.
6) Lose weight- I need to get motivated to lose this baby weight- my goal is to lose 10 lbs this year.
I have really been motivated and watching what I am eating. I have been eating more fruits and veggies and doing Chris Powell's workouts on YouTube, Kevin and I have been running when we get the chance and I am so happy to report that I have lost 6 pounds- yay. I am on my way to be healthy and not over weight :)
7) Morning devotions, prayer time and more bible reading
Following a bible reading on my church's website:)
8) Monthly date night with hubby- whether we go out or stay at home, pop popcorn and rent a movie
We didn't do a date night. We really need to start this back up again.
9) To spend quality family time together. With everyones schedule and us running all over creation, I would love to spend more quality time together- no tv- us playing games, talking, enjoying each others company. I think we are going to claim Saturday's as family fun day:)
Wow, we didn't do any family fun Saturdays in September- oops, time to change that :)
10) Not to use our dryer to save on electricity and lower our electricity bill
Doing great with this and haven't not used the dryer. I am loving this weather. I hang the clothes up on clothes racks and next day they are dry:)
11) To do 1 project a month and blog about it
With everything going on, we didn't get a chance to do our monthly projects for a couple of months now :(

Our Family Adventure
As many of you know, my hubby's grandfather passed away last month. His services were held near Philadelphia, PA.
Now, we had to find a way to PA. I didn't want to chance taking the van since it has a habit of cutting off and on for no apparent reason. I first thought of renting a car. I plugged in the address to MapQuest and it told me that it was 18 long lovely hours. No thank you. The drive down when we moved was enough for me :)
We thought about flying but the cost was not what we wanted to spend. The more we thought about it, the more we knew that we wanted to pay our respects as a family. We had to find a way to PA.
We are very fortunate that we made some money on the house we sold in VA. I wanted to tuck that money away in a CD or Money Market account but we decided that we would use it for the flight to PA.
The boys were very excited to fly. With the exception of little Michael, they had never flown before and little Michael was too little to remember his first flight.
The closer the days got, the more excited the little ones became and the more nervous the older ones got. The day finally came and we loaded up the van and off the airport we went.
While waiting for our flight, a lovely lady sat down right beside us and ate her lunch. I was explaining to Kevin that flying was not that bad and that once we got into the air he would be OK. We got split up on the flight to PA. Chris and Kevin were seated together. Nathan, little Michael and myself were seated together and my hubby was somewhere in the middle of the plane. They wouldn't even let us board together :(
Chris and Kevin found their seats and who should sit right next to them but the lovely lady who sat with us in the airport. She helped Kevin so much and let him hold her arm when the flight took off. Who ever she was, I am very thankful that she was there for my boys :) It turns out, that they now love to fly.
The funeral was absolutely beautiful. Willie~ Pop's grandson played several amazing violin pieces. He is truly talented with violin. We cried, we laughed and we cried some more. People shared stories and spent the afternoon with loving family. It was a absolute beautiful day.
The adventure home as just that~ an adventure. We get to the airport and get on the plane. Everything is going great until the pilot announced that there was a problem and back to the gate we were going. A lot of people were annoyed but I would rather have a problem on the ground than in the air :)
We finally take off and land in NC. Unfortunately, our connecting flight took off without us. The airline was very nice and was going to put us in a hotel. But my lovely sis in law announced that we would be staying with them:) We took this as a sign that Pop wanted us to have more time together:)
It was great seeing my younger boys playing with their cousins that they don't get to see as often as we would love to.
We finally made it home except for the fact that we had to land at a different airport in Florida. We had to rent a car to drive to the airport that my van was sitting in and to get our luggage.
As I said, it was quite an adventure. But we had this adventure as a family :)
I can't wait to see where our next adventure~ hopefully not so wild and crazy~ takes us :)
